Matthew J. DeGregorio, a United States Air Force and Vietnam veteran, has dedicated his life to serving his country and community.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Levittown, New York, Mr. DeGregorio attended the local school system before enlisting in the United States Air Force. Trained as an Aircraft Maintenance and Crew Chief, he rose to the rank of Sergeant and served with the 602nd Fighter Squadron (Commando) in Vietnam and Thailand.

For his service and valor, Mr. DeGregorio earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and other distinctions.

Following his honorable service, Mr. DeGregorio returned to Levittown, where he became an unwavering advocate for veterans. As Post Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Levittown–Island Trees Post 9592, he has worked tirelessly to support veterans, military families, and the local community.

Mr. DeGregorio lives and breathes the VFW. Under his leadership, the Post organizes hospital visits for ailing veterans, sends care packages to deployed troops, assists local military families, and mentors youth. He also ensures the Post actively participates in community events, parades, and flag retirement ceremonies.

Mr. DeGregorio has made the VFW a welcoming place for all veterans – male or female, young or old, from today’s conflicts, past wars, or even small operations that many have forgotten. His commitment to inclusion underscores his big heart and deep dedication to his country and community.

Committed to veteran advocacy, Mr. DeGregorio works with local, State, and national representatives to champion policies that improve veterans’ lives. He also encourages middle and high school students to engage with the VFW’s youth scholarship programs, fostering civic engagement and patriotism.

Beyond his service to veterans, Mr. DeGregorio is a devoted husband to his wife, Maryanne, a proud father of three daughters, and a loving grandfather to five grandchildren. His leadership and dedication exemplify the values of the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame, making him a deserving honoree.
