"We are witnessing the erosion of constitutional norms under the guise of law enforcement across immigrant communities. ICE agents are cloaking themselves in masks without visible insignia, arriving in unmarked vehicles, operating in courthouses, schools, and neighborhoods using the same tactics as authoritarian regimes."
"I unequivocally support the 'No Masks for ICE' Act introduced by Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez. This legislation is necessary to guarantee the transparency and accountability that a healthy democracy demands of our law enforcement institutions."
"Let’s be honest: these deportation tactics are not about keeping anyone safe. This is about fear. These masked individuals are indiscriminately terrorizing and intimidating immigrants, many of whom are law-abiding, working families simply seeking due process. This is about stripping dignity and constitutional protections from people based on where they were born."
"Congress must act now. This bill reaffirms a basic principle: anyone empowered to enforce the law must be identifiable, accountable, and constrained by the same law."
"I urge every member of Congress who believes in civil liberties, human dignity, and the rule of law to support Representative Velázquez’s bill without hesitation."
