Senator Webb Honors Dr. Carol A. Ross-Scott Ed.D with the Legislative Women’s Caucus Women’s History Month Award

(Binghamton, NY) –  Today, Senator Lea Webb honored Dr. Carol A. Ross-Scott Ed.D as part of the Legislative Women’s Caucus Annual Women’s History Month Celebration at the Governor’s Mansion in Albany. This event recognizes women from across New York and creates an outlet for women from various backgrounds to come together and unite as one. The national theme for this year’s celebration is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.” Each member of the caucus selected an honoree from their district whose work and achievements support the advancement of their community. In addition, the Legislative Women’s Caucus has created a display in the Legislative Office Building in the Capitol to recognize the honorees throughout the month. 

Dr. Carol A. Ross-Scott is the Vice President of Student Development and Chief Diversity Officer at SUNY Broome Community College. Dr. Ross-Scott has worked in education for many years, and has a plethora of leadership experiences working in community colleges and international higher education. She has participated in Broome workforce meetings, created a community Lunch and Learn Series on topics related to diversity, and served as a state Guided Pathways Coach for Monroe and Jamestown Community Colleges. Dr. Ross-Scott is passionate about serving in her community and is an active member of the Apalachin Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Ross-Scott for her incredible work and dedication to our community. She is a champion for higher education and exemplifies this award by consistently finding ways to keep diversity at the forefront, in and out of the classroom. I believe that by acknowledging the contributions of women like Carol, we inspire future generations and foster a more inclusive and equitable society.”  

Said Dr. Carol A. Ross-Scott, “It’s truly a humbling honor and surprise to be recognized by Senator Lea Webb for my unapologetic dedication to and advocacy for diversity, equity and inclusion. As a Black female, the tireless dedication I pour out simply means that I understand my assignment. Standing on the DNA shoulders of strong Black women who served as a powerful affirmation of resilience and service to others, particularly those who have been and are marginalized, I know this assignment is multifaceted, deeply impactful and at times exhausting. But when my assignment is to help one’s voice to be heard, help one listen to that voice so their uniqueness is celebrated, where rights are articulated and respected…you put your head down and keep it moving. The on-going struggle gets more real every day. To be among many women celebrated for making a difference in this world is to recognize my perspectives, strengths and passion. My spirit is full and refueled, primed to continue this work.”
