Senator Addabbo Brings Estate Planning Advice Presentation to Glendale Senior Center
July 30, 2025

Lawyer Alex Bader gives an estate planning presentation at a local senior center.
Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. hosted a special presentation on estate planning at the Sacred Heart Golden Age Senior Center in Glendale on July 24, 2025. The guest speaker was Alexander Sam Bader, Esq. from the law firm of Brady & Bader LLP. There were about 40 seniors in attendance.
"Ensuring that our seniors are informed about estate planning is vital to their financial security and peace of mind,” Addabbo said. “Hosting educational presentations at senior centers allows residents to make informed decisions about their future, protect their assets, and leave a lasting legacy for their loved ones."
Bader focused on what he considers the four most important documents when it comes to end of life care and the division of assets. A healthcare proxy, for example, protects assets and allows trusted people to make decisions.
“It’s about taking control when unfortunate things happen way, way down the road,” Bader said. “We want the people we trust in control of our assets and where they need to go.”
Next of importance is a living will, which is a supporting document to the healthcare proxy and can be used as evidence of a person’s final wishes like being removed from life support. It takes the burden off the family members to make these difficult decisions.
Another important document is the power of attorney. This is someone a person trusts to make decisions on their behalf and unlike a healthcare proxy and living will which focuses on health, the power of attorney focuses on financial decisions.
Lastly is the will which designates beneficiaries regarding the assets of the deceased and aims to avoid probate.
The seniors enjoyed the presentation and asked several questions.
