Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick Honors Rev. Karen A. Chávez as 2026 Woman of Distinction

ALBANY, N.Y. — Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick recognized Rev. Karen A. Chávez, Director of Outreach Programs for the New York Race Track Chaplaincy, as her 2026 Woman of Distinction for the 9th State Senate District during a ceremony held at the State Capitol.
A Franklin Square resident and respected leader, Chávez has spent decades dedicated to serving others and uplifting families across the region. Since 2005, she has led a wide range of impactful initiatives, including a food pantry and free boutique that together serve more than 1,000 individuals each month. Her work has also included the Summer Enrichment Program at Belmont and Saratoga race tracks, women’s empowerment initiatives, teen mentoring programs, educational support services, and major events such as Breast Cancer Awareness Night and International Women’s Day celebrations.
“Karen has devoted her life to helping others. Her unwavering commitment to her faith and her service to those in need has made a meaningful impact on countless lives throughout our district,” said Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick. “I am proud to recognize Karen Chávez as my 2026 Woman of Distinction and celebrate her extraordinary dedication to others.”
Chávez has received numerous honors for her leadership and service, including being named Community Advocate of the Year by the Long Island Chamber of Commerce. Most recently, she received the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
“I am deeply honored and grateful to receive this recognition from Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick,” said Chávez. “I share this award with my family, the women of the horse racing industry, and the many individuals and communities I have had the privilege to serve alongside throughout the years. Above all, I give God the glory for every opportunity to serve.”
Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick concluded, “Karen represents the very best of public service. Whether mentoring young people, supporting families in need, or creating opportunities for women across our region, she has dedicated herself to improving the lives of others. Her compassion, leadership, and commitment to service continue to inspire so many throughout Senate District 9.”
