New York State Senator Steve Rhoads teamed up with Nassau County Legislator Rose Walker and the Bethpage Public Library to host a Citizens Preparedness Program designed to help local residents better prepare for emergencies and unexpected situations.

As part of the program, 150 emergency preparedness backpacks filled with essential supplies and safety information were distributed to participants. The backpacks provide residents with practical resources they can use to help protect themselves and their families during an emergency.

The program also provided residents with important information and guidance on emergency preparedness, emphasizing the importance of having a plan, knowing what resources are available, and being prepared before an emergency occurs.

“Being prepared can make all the difference when an emergency strikes,” said Senator Steve Rhoads. “Our goal is to make sure families have both the knowledge and the resources they need to respond quickly and effectively. I thank Legislator Rose Walker and the Bethpage Public Library for partnering with us to help make our community safer and better prepared.”

The event demonstrated what public safety in action looks like: taking proactive steps before an emergency occurs to ensure residents are informed, equipped, and ready to respond. Through collaboration among community organizations and public institutions, Senator Rhoads, Legislator Walker, and their partners are helping strengthen the community’s preparedness and resilience by putting critical information, resources, and tools directly into the hands of residents.
